Some of the most beautiful hikes in Germany are along the Rhine. From the wine town of Ruedesheim the walking trails of the Rheinburgenweg and the Rheinsteig wind through vineyards, forests, meadows and medieval villages passing more than 25 castles along the way.
You can follow the Rhine Gorge all the way from Ruedesheim to Koblenz, spending the night in a wine town or in a castle. Or base yourself in one of a medieval villages on the Rhine and undertake day hikes through the vineyard-glad hills. You can even include a hike to a castle where you can dine on the cuisine created by renowned chef Johann Lafer.
In-between hikes enjoy strolling along the Rhine promenade in the wine towns of Boppart, Bacharch, enjoy a wine tasting, embark on a Rhine cruise, visit the former Roman settlement of Koblenz with its mighty Fortress Ehrenbreitstein towering above it and stand at the confluence of the Mosel and the Rhine at Deutsches Eck which jots into the two rivers like a ship's bow.
