MILLE MIGLIA 2012
May 15 to May 25,  2012

This year we have brought back our classic format for the Mille Miglia
Tour. The Tour begins in Brescia  and then it it is on to Florence and
to Bologna.

We have recently changed our program as the tour including transportation is very expensive and we need at least 10 participants. Due to space being almost unavailable in Brescia we have changed the tour back to self-drive and lowered the price. The tour has all the inclusion the coach tour had plus an additional day in Florence

ITINERARY

May 15 - Board your flight from USA to Milan.

May 16 -  After arrival in Milan get your rental car and drive to Brescia, the City of the Mille Miglia !    After checking into the hotel, one of the official hotels for Mille Miglia Drivers, the day is at leisure until 7:30 p.m when we have arranged a dinner at La Sosta, formerly the the stables of a historic Stage Coach Inn which is now Brescia's best restaurant.  D

May 17  -  This morning you will wake up to the roar of engines outside the hotel when drivers get their cars ready to drive to the old center of Brescia for the registration. If you are a real car nut you most likely will skip breakfast and head downtown as well.  You have the day to mingle among the cars, talk to the drivers and take pictures. Registration ends usually around one or two in the afternoon. In the evening head toward the starting area to see the Mille Miglia get under way. We will give you a map with the route the cars take through town so that you can follow it to see them maneuver through the sometimes very narrow streets which were made for horses, not for cars. Seeing the cars drive through town, you wouldn't know that the Mille Miglia is no longer a race. Great Fun ! B

May 18 -  After breakfast  drive to Florence to see the Mille cars on their return trip to Brescia the next day. En route you can stop in Montova (Mantua) one of the most imposing and historic cities of Lombardy.  Among the many fabulous sights sights are the Palazzo Ducale,  the magnificent New Cathedral (600-years old ), the old Byzantine Duomo, and there is small automobile museum dedicated to the Mille Miglia. For lunch you can linger over Pizza  in the Piazza before continuing on to Florence where our hotel is in the very center of the city, just a short two blocks from the the Duomo, Florence's stunning Cathedral.  In the evening you might want to meet with the other participants on the hotel terrace for a glass of wine and the wonders of Florence which are spread out before you. B

May 19 - The morning is at leisure to see Florence.  The historic center of Florence is compact and you can see it all  on an easy stroll. Early in the afternoon the Mille Miglia cars arrive on their way back to Brescia. We will give you a map with the best places to watch them.  And if you want to see David, do it after the cars have come through, the museum is quiet then as most of the day tourists have left.  B

May 20 - As the day is on your own we suggest a drive into the hills of Tuscany. We can make suggestions. B

May 21 - After a leisurely breakfast  we drive to Bologna, one of Italy's most beautiful towns, thankfully overlooked by mass tourism. Your Hotel in Bologna is but a few steps from the Piazza Maggiore, Bologna's magnificent main square in the very center of the old town which is bordered on one side by the Cathedral of San Petronio, and by palaces from the 14th to the 17th centuries on its three other sides. In the afternoon meet your local host for a walking tour of the historic center of Bologna. The evening is free to go out and eat on your own. Since  Bologna is the culinary capitol of Italy there is no shortage of restaurants, trattorias and osterias ! B

May 22 This morning drive to Maranello to visit Galleria Ferrari which is dedicated to the life and legend of Enzo Ferrari. At noon you can opt to have lunch at Il Cavallino , the restaurant facing the Ferrari factory which was founded by Enzo Ferrari.  If one or more of the tour participants owns a Ferrari we can schedule a visit to the factory.  In the afternoon visit the Cheese Farm of Umberto Pannini where the famous Parmegiano Reggiano is produced, and to view his fabulous private collection of rare automobiles reviving the Maserati Legend. B

May 23 -This morning  drive to Sant'Agata to visit Lamborghini.  With the new Aventator on the production line. We have arranged an extended tour of the plant for next year.  This is followed by a visit to the Lamborghini Museum.  Afterwards you can relax over a slow lunch at a nearby Balsamic Vinegar Plant whose restaurant is known for its authentic regional cooking.   B L

May 24  - Today you will visit the world's most exclusive custom automobile builder, Modena Design. The firm builds the prestigious Pagani Automobiles. Horacio Pagani made his debut at age 20 when he designed an F-3 and raced the car in Argentina under Renault team. Horacio Pagani's fondest dream, to design and build his own cars became reality in the late 80's when Modena Design, a cutting edge car company was established.  So take a look for yourself:  www.paganiautomobili.it   Afterwards you can be the guests at Francesca Stanguellini to see his small but impressive collection of early Mille Miglia cars built by Stangellini. In the evening back in Bologna where we have arranged a very special dinner hosted by a local family where you will enjoy some of the best foods and wines of of Romagna Emila.  B D
