For those who want more time with the pandas but are looking at lesser expensive arrangements, we have designed a new package which includes 6 full days of volunteer work at the Giant Panda Research Center in Bifengxia. Volunteers stay at the Xiaoxitian Hostel which is on the grounds of the Research Center. Volunteers on this tour must be aware that the hostel has only basic accommodations and the toilets are Asian, not western. However, although the accommodations are simple they are private with private facilities. Meals are served at hostel and are Asian. If you can live with this then this tour is an excellent way of working with the pandas for a longer period of time for a very reasonable cost.

ITINERARY

Day 1 - Arrive in Beijing. A guide will meet you at the airport and transfer you at the Friendship Hotel where the remainder of the day is at leisure.

Day 2 - Breakfast at the hotel. Afterwards embark on a city tour to visit Tiananman Square and the Forbidden City. After lunch visit the Great Wall at a section close to Beijing. B L D

Day 3 - Transfer to the airport to fly to Chengdu. After arrival in Chengdu drive directly to the Giant Panda Research Center in Bifengxia where you check into the hostel. Time permitting you may want to take a walk around the panda reserve. Dinner is at the hostel. B D

Day 4 through day 9 - Volunteer work at the Panda Center. Breakfast, lunch and dinner each day.

Day 10 - This morning bid your panda goodbye then drive to the Chengdu Airport to fly to Shanghai. After arrival in Shanghai ride the world's fastest train to the city center. Overnight at the Intercontinental Hotel Pudong. Buffet dinner at the hotel. B L D

Day 11 - Individual airport transfers for your return flight. B

NOT INCLUDED: International air fare, alcoholic drinks, bottled water or soft drinks with meals, tips to guides and drivers, playing with the young pandas is optional, and any other personal expenses not mentioned in this itinerary.
